Senior police officials from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements at the electoral center in Kismaayo, the capital of Jubbaland State.
The team from AMISOM led by ACP Francis Ayitey Aryee held discussions with top Jubbaland administration officials earlier today, on security measures which have been put in place to ensure an incident free election in Jubbaland State.
ACP Aryee is a member of the Security Task Force charged with overseeing and coordinating security during the electoral process.
“We expect that the delegates will come in and exercise their responsibility without hindrance or fear of intimidation. We expect a free, fair, credible, transparent and incident free process,” ACP Aryree said.
He added, “We want to take this opportunity to thank the Jubbaland state administration for all their efforts in trying to make sure the process takes off successfully. Somalia’s electoral process will be a landmark and a step further towards getting the country back to normalcy.”
The team also held a meeting with the chairperson of the Jubbaland State-level Indirect Electoral Implementation Team, Mr. Abdi Ali Raghe and the Jubbaland representative on the Somalia Electoral Security Taskforce Mr. Mohamed Abdinor Ahmed.
“We expect that the process for the Lower House will commence in the next few days. Today, we were planning, before the process kicks off to ensure that everything is in place,” Mr. Mohamed Abdinor Ahmed, who is also advisor to the Jubbaland President explained.
“We are happy with what we have found,” ACP Aryee summed up the assessment mission to Kismaayo.
AMISOM is working closely with the Somali National Security Forces, the Federal government and regional states to secure the electoral process.
