The Al Qaeda-affiliated militant group Al shabaab said it killed 7 Burundian soldiers serving under AMISOM in an ambush attack near Mahaday town in middle Shabelle region on Friday.
In a reported posted on pro-al shabaab website, militants launched a raid on AMISOM convoy carrying Burundian soldiers travelling at Biyo Adde area, 8Km away from Mahaday district.
The report says the Al shabaab assault began with an improvised explosive device (IED), planted on the road that struck the convoy and destroyed an armored personnel carrier.
The militants have engaged in a fierce gunfire with the African Union soldiers following the bomb attack. AMISOM has denied the claim and termed it as “baseless and propaganda.”
