Detectives in Likoni, Mombasa, are interrogating a suspect believed to be an al Shabaab returnee. Rama Ali was arrested in Mrima on Monday.
He was hiding with three others who escaped the police raid. A G3 rifle was recovered. The raid was conducted following a tip from wananchi.
Speaking at Likoni police station, police chief Willy Simba said the suspect admitted he was trained in Somalia and returned to Kenya earlier this year. Simba said they are questioning him about other returnees.
Likoni has been a hideout for most-wanted criminals from Kwale and Mombasa. The are is said to be a training ground for MRC recruits ahead of the general election. Simba said the rifle was stolen from a police officer in June.
