At least five civilians have been killed, and several wounded in an overnight mortar bombardment on a residential area near Janaale town in Lower Shabelle region by AMISOM forces.
Confirming the incident, Shalanbod administrator Nur Osman Rageh said African Union forces at Bufow base have fired mortar rounds on Franko neighborhood, killing five people from one family.
“AMISOM soldiers at Bufow area have indiscriminately bombed Franko vicinity near Janale with mortar shells which left five people – a mother and her four children dead,” Rageh said.
He said AMISOM bombing on Franko area came after Al shabaab attacked AMISOM base at Bufow village near Marko, a coastal city which serves as the regional capital of Lower Shabelle region.
AMISOM – African Union mission in Somalia did comment on the alleged mortar bombing on the civilians in Lower Shabelle region, south of Somalia.
