The district administration of Marka, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle in southern Somalia has given further details on the latest clan clashes in the city, which has led to civilians casualties.

Speaking in an interview with South West Based Independent station Idale News Online , the deputy commissioner of Marka Abdikarim Hussein Hassan said his administration and local elders are making efforts to bring an end to the tribal battle.

“There have been unsuccessful several efforts to intervene the conflict, and reconcile the warring clans over the past few months, but we are still committed to stop the recurrent skirmish,” Hassan said.

Continuing, Mr Hassan said Al Shabaab fighters are still active in some parts of Marka and could take over the town from the unpaid Somali government soldiers at anytime.

He blamed Al Shabaab for fuelling the clan fighting in Lower Shabelle region, but the militants did not response to the official’s accusation.
