UPDATE : 1 dead, 4 hurt in mortar strike on Baidoa town

Up to a dozen mortar rounds have landed into parts of Baidoa town, the provincial capital of Bay region, and killed at least 1 person and wounded 5 others including a child, residents and MP said said.

Member of Parliament, Abdukadir Mohamed Ali said that the mortar attacks ruined down on residential areas in the town of Baidoa.

He added the all victims have been rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

The mortar attacks were also targeted airport, South-West State Headquarters and areas close to Presidential Palace, sources tell Idale News Online based in Baidoa.

Somalia’s armed group of Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Baidoa town.

The group stated that it had shelled key areas under South-West State administration control.

Last month, several people have been killed and others wounded in deadly mortar attacks claimed by Al Qaida linked Al Shabaab militants in the town of Baidoa.

Baidoa, a town lies about 250Km south of Somali capital Mogadishu.
