Al Shabaab attacks KDF camp in Gedo with mortars

Al Shabaab has launched again an overnight mortar attack on Kenyan military camp at Dhamase village in Gedo province, the latest in series of bombardments on KDF base in the area.

Mortar rounds fired by Al Shabaab fighters from undisclosed location have rained down on the KDF’s military base in Dhamase, a strategic village located 50Km north-west of El Wak.

The Latest reports from the are indicate that Kenyan forces have responded the shelling with heavy artillery fire which has inflicted casualties on local residents in Dhamase village.

The exchange of mortars by Kenyan troops and Al Shabaab raised security concerns as both sides have been clashing over the past few days. Hundreds reportedly fled their houses.

Al Shabaab, the Al Qaeda-affiliated militants have dramatically stepped up its cross border attacks in Kenya and border regions since the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
