The defense minister of Somali federal government Gen Abdulkadir Sheikh Ali Dini said SNA and AMISOM forces have killed at least 240 Al shabaab fighters in Halgan attack.
The allied troops fought off the attack and killed 240 fighters during the dawn suicide and gun attack in Ethiopian troops’ base at Halgan area, the minister said in press conference.
“SNA and AMISOM bases at Halgan came under heavy Al shabaab attack at around 5am in the morning. The attack began with car bomb detonated at the gate, then fighters stormed the base,” said Dini.
There are conflicting reports of the casualties.
Al shabaab said it killed more 60 Ethiopian soldiers, lost 16 fighters in their side.
AMISOM and Somali federal government say more than 100 of Al shabaab members have been killed during the attack, while an assortment of weapons seized from militants.
In a Twitter post, AMISOM said Al Shabaab incurred heavy casualties in the attempted attack in Halgan. 110 Al Shabaab fighters were killed including one white foreign fighter.
