MP: Beledweyne residents are in dire need of humanitarian assistance

Samiro Hassan Abdulle, a member of Somali parliament said that people in Beledweyne are facing unprecedented humanitarian crises after the town has been hit by floods and inter-clan fighting.

Speaking to Media, the MP said hundreds of people have been displaced in the central town as a result of heavy flooding. The floods have also increased the risk of waterborne diseases such diarrhea and malaria.

“The local residents of Beledweyne  have been struck by the hardest humanitarian catastrophe and they are now in desperate need of assistance,” said Somali lawmaker Samiro Hassan Abdulle.

She has called on the federal government and international aid workers to help the people who have been effected by the river floods and clan fighting in the town of Beledweyne, the regional capital of Hiiraan.

Recurring crises, including droughts, inter-clan violence and river floods have claimed the lives of hundreds of people, including women and children and displaced thousands others in southern Somalia over the past few years.
