Somalia National Army (SNA) troops, along with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeepers have re-captured Aden Yabal town in south of Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region.

Saturday’s seizure of the town came after fighters from Al Qaeda associated with Al Shabaab have reportedly withdrawn from the town in fear of military offensive launched by the coalition forces.

The allied forces cautiously moved into offices and police stations ran by Al Shabaab militants, and then set up new army bases, local residents told Shabelle Media based in Mogadishu.

In an interview with IdaleNews.com, Ahmed Miney, a Somalia military officer said that the coalition forces had taken full control of the town shortly after being emptied by the militants.

“Early in the morning, we (SNA and AMISOM) have re-seized Aden Yabal town without fighting or firing any single shot” he added.

He also said that two public water wells had been destroyed with bomb explosion before militants’ departure.

The armed group of Al Shabaab did not comment on the claims by Somalia and AMISOM.
