Halane military camp, the largest African Union military base in the Somali’s capital Mogadishu came under mortar shells from Al-Shabaab on Monday night (3th May, 2016).

AMISOM spokesman Lt Col Joe Kibet has confirmed the mortar attack to Radio Shabelle, and he said they are now investigating the casualties as a result of overnight bombardment on the AU peacekeepers base in Halane camp in Mogadishu.

Continuing, Mr Kibet said all African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN) personnel in the base camp are safe and secure.

Meanwhile, residents who reside close Mogadishu airport gave corresponding reports saying sounds of at least five blasts as mortars struck the African Union base were heard late on Monday night.
