A clan fighting has renewed in the southern port city of Marko as military officials from Somali National Army (SNA) and AMISOM troops are making peace efforts to end the tribal hostility.

Hundreds of residents fled their houses in Marko town when two armed clan militia fighters have engaged in a fierce gun battle at several villages in the city, which serves as the regional capital of Lower Shabelle region.

ISWA and AMISOM commanders in the city are holding separate meetings with local elders to convince both warring sides to stop the fire and come to the negotiation table to iron out the differences.

Marko, a seaside town in southern Somalia, just 110Km south-west of Somali capital has fallen to Somali and AU troops in 2012 after pushing Al shabaab militants out the city following an army offensive.
