Heavy gunfight has erupted on Friday between Al shabaab and Somali Govt troops backed by AMISOM soldiers in the outskirts of Janale village in Lower Shabelle region.

Residents said the fighting began after Al shabaab fighters have ambushed military convoy carrying the allied forces near Janaale, which lies  some 105Km north-west of Mogadishu.

Heavy exchange of gunfire could be heard around the village, as both warring sides engaged in a deadly combat that led to the deaths and injuries of a number of soldiers.

Janale has been under Al shabaab control since last September, 2015 after Uganda troops base in the area was stormed by militants using combination of car bombs and gun attacks.
