An Egyptair commercial carrying 55 passengers and seven crew members was hijacked on Tuesday morning, the airline confirmed, with reports of a bomb and at least one armed individual on board. Egyptian television identified the hijacker as Ibrahim Samaha, reportedly a Libyan national.
The plane made an emergency landing in Larnaca, Cyprus, after which the airport was closed off. Egyptair released a statement about an hour later saying that following negotiations, all passengers had been released save for four foreigners, and that the crew was still onboard.
