Members of the newly appointed Somali election commission have for the first time elected Omar Mohamud Abdulle as the new chairman of the commission.

The independent electoral commission has been designed to prepare the upcoming 2016 election system by the federal government and regional administrations.

The new election commission chairman is also a law adviser to Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Reports say the regional states are gloomy with the commission.

Somali leaders have held election talks in the country, and agreed a clan power-sharing model known as (4.5), a formula that is expected to pave the way for general election.
